“Fractured Symmetry: Urban & Rural”
\nThis project explores my personal experience of being caught between two
\ncontrasting environments: the urban setting of Casablanca, where I grew up, and
\nthe rural landscape of the High Atlas mountains, where I spent my summers. This
\nduality creates a surreal mental landscape and a sense of living with “two visions”
\nin the mind, illustrating how environment profoundly affects people
\npsychologically.
\nAll photographs in this project were captured between 2023 and 2024 using
\nanalog photography, employing various expired rolls of 35mm color film. I chose
\nexpired film because it is also impacted by the environment, reflecting my own
\nexperience. The film grain represents traces and a sense of pain. Each photograph
\nis a composite image, created by merging two separate photographs using
\nPhotoshop, resulting in a technique similar to double exposure. This project emerges from my personal experience, growing up in a bustling city
\nand the mental contrast I experienced when traveling to my mother’s hometown. In the rural landscape, I found peace of mind and reconnected with the place
\nwhere I spent each summer as a child. Through this work, I aim to create a poetic
\nvisual series influenced by surrealistic art, particularly the work of Frida Kahlo, Vincent van Gogh and Betty lane, Val telberg.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
