He is the only athlete in history to have won world titles at the 800 meters, 1500 meters, and 5000 meters.
He was the first person to break the 13-minute barrier in the 5000 meters, and he also set world records in the 1500 meters and mile run.
Aouita was the first African to win the 5000 meters at the Olympics, and he won the gold medal in the event at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.
Aouita was the first athlete to win four consecutive world titles in the 5000 meters, and he was the first athlete to win the 5000 meters and 10,000 meters at the same Olympics.
