Self-taught visual artist, born in El Jadida in 1997, graduated as a Specialized Technician in business management at MIAGE Ksar El Kébir University, she completed her training to become an executive in professional teaching of visual arts at the GEF school. “from Casablanca.
Oumaima was inspired by nature and its colors, after she found that the butterfly is a symbol of expressing one's artistic soul.
In 2018 until that day, she led and developed workshops, as well as exhibitions, within the “Fous d’art” association under the presidency of Zokhrouf Abdelilah.
Artistic approach
Oumaima BENMARRAKCHI draws her inspiration from nature, and more precisely from the figure of the butterfly, its attitudes, the way in which it presents itself (nature), represents itself, but also the way in which it perceives itself.
For her, this motif expresses her artistic soul, in her works as much pictorial as in volume (installations). Indeed, this insect entered his artistic life through his career, subsequently becoming a recurring subject in his work, symbolizing the ephemeral and fragile nature of all existence. She deploys it in shimmering, vibrant colors, full of dynamism and vitality. An object of representation but also a subject of research, this butterfly serves a whole range of formal experiments, because Oumaima still defines herself as an artist in constant exploration.
For her, butterflies or lepidoptera seem absent from prehistoric paintings but are subsequently regularly represented, on all continents, in her works of art.
Thus, the painting becomes a serialism in itself whose autonomous organization is distinct from the subject from which it is inspired. Oumaima lengthens the proportions of the bodies in a free manner, to give these butterflies the living force of their spiritual dimension.
Her paintings are the pictorial expression of her sensations, she translates a sensation into an image, she gives it a plastic and colorful equivalent. A work must be “the passionate equivalent of a sensation received” (Maurice DENIS).
But it is in painting that she most appreciates the experience of beauty, the search for the pure sources of butterfly art, of primitive sensation, of sincere emotion.
