Hamza Ettouijry 33 year old self-taught photographer and visual artist, who was raised and lives in Casablanca. Growing up in this vibrant cultural hub gave him many artistic experiences. Photography has been part of his life since childhood. His father gave him a camera and film to capture family celebrations. At nine years old, he held a camera for the first time. His father taught him how to load film and use the camera, starting a lifelong passion. As he explored the city streets, Hamza developed a unique way of seeing that still influences his photography today. In 2019, he began doing street photography, which became his artistic medium and a powerful way to express himself, resist, and reflect. Through his lens, Hamza captures the essence of social landscapes and nature landscapes, showing the city's diverse people and the everyday moments.
Artistic approach
I've been passionately pursuing photography for many years, continuosly learning by myself and refining my skills. My journey began with street photography. Street photography allows me to capture the essence of my city social landscape, highlighting its diverse inhabitants and the beauty of everyday moments.
The works of renowned artists like van gogh, val telberg, lee friedlander, and frida kahlo inspire me to push creative boundaries and contribute meaningfully to the art world.
I always carry a compact camera, often employing the rule of thirds for impactful compositions.
I've embraced analog photography as my primary medium, drawn to the unique textures and unpredictable nature of films, utilizing both expired and new film stocks. The process itself involves trips between the lab for developing the film and my home for scanning.
I often wander the streets alone, seeking inspiration and allowing my creative spirit to roam.
I strive to paint with my photographs, always trying to depict my imagination in reality.
Through my artwork, I aspire to evoke emotions and foster empathy among viewers, enabling them to understand and connect with experiences beyond their own.
