Biography
Born in 1990, Rachid Ismek is a self-taught visual artist, originally from a small village in the region of Ouarzazate (Morocco).
His creative journey began in his early childhood: he spent a lot of time drawing on newspaper and wrapping paper.
His artistic initiation began in primary school: first contact with water paint and drawing paper, discovery of graphic and pictorial art materials and techniques, joy of winning first prize in a school competition. Later, in Ouarzazate for his secondary studies, he spent weekends creating and producing signs and panels for local traders and entrepreneurs. This work, certainly nourishing, opens up to new drawing techniques and allows me to explore calligraphy in all its forms. After several applications to join a plastic arts school, which failed for administrative or arbitrary reasons, he resigned himself to continuing his studies in computer programming, but without ever abandoning art.
Artistic approach
His abstract works (portraits/figures) are inspired by his daily life, imagination or sometimes by image references from the internet. He uses his art to interpret and express the emotional side of life from his personal perception and his artistic soul.
His research focuses on everything psychic, spiritual and emotional in human beings and the impact of each experience on defining the person.
